My New T-shirt from ShaplandArt Shop

I just received my new ladies fitted t-shirt from my RedBubble online shop. It’s got my ‘love bunny’ on it and I am so happy with the design and the way the print has come out on the t-shirt.

The ladies fitted t-shirt fits nicely too.

My bunny is a play on the valentine’s theme. He’s cute and giving flowers and hearts. I think this drawing is about sending myself a little bit of self-love. Self-care is a big theme for me at the moment and I’m so excited to share my art with you.

I couldn’t be happier.

Art-ing again

I’ve had a big break from drawing, painting and pretty much anything that equates to visual art. But recently, I’ve needed to feel my pen and pencil glide across the page and see immediate results of my creativity in action.

Writing novels is great fun but it is a long (and sometimes lonely) process. I can’t show it to you, you would have to read every word and immerse yourself in the story to see it, feel it, sense it, experience it. But with art, you can view an image and have an immediate reaction.

My artwork is very much a personal expression tool. I’m not the best of the best at it, but it’s who I am at any given moment in time.

So here’s me through images at this point in my life.

I’m obviously animal obsessed. Maybe that’s because animals accept me for who I am and don’t require much from me? Maybe it’s because (for me) animals are safe for me on an emotional level. I don’t know exactly, but I feel drawn to them in my artistic expression.

Last weekend, all I did was draw and play with watercolour paints and some new alcohol based ink markers. I watched a few art classes on Skillshare.com and picked up some tips but mostly, I felt inspired to create visually again.

There’s nothing worse than looking at a blank page and wondering… “What am I going to draw, paint, sketch?”

Some of the above images have been put through Gimp and cut out and put on t-shirts at RedBubble under ShaplandArt. I’m not the best with digital image manipulation and always have to go to Google to figure out the next step. It takes ages but I eventually end up with something on a t-shirt that I’m pretty happy with.

I guess I can only improve.

My Happy Jar, Yoga, Writing and the X-Files

My Happy Jar

One of my friends told me about this great site called Your Happy Jar and since my quest for 2017 is to connect with balance and count my blessings as well as write a great novel, I thought I’d join.

I’ve had a great time writing short notes that I can look back on and appreciate. Reading through my notes already makes me feel happy.

Above are two of my happy moments. As the title of my website says – I am an animal lover. These are two of my beloved four legged furry friends.  The third one is a little more difficult to snap up a photo of but I’ll get him one day and he’ll be added to my happy moments too.

Here’s another happy writing moment:

That day I’d been having so much fun writing my novel while on the train, I almost missed getting off at the right stop.  Reliving that memory is awesome, especially as writing a novel length story can be such a roller-coaster of emotions for me.

It is so nice to remind myself of all the happy moments I have in my life.

Yoga

As I’ve said before on my blog, I’ve been committed to my yoga practice as I explore the benefits to my mental, emotional, physical and spiritual self. Somedays I don’t want to get on the mat but the moment I do, it’s like I’ve come home to myself and I know I’ve made the right decision for my own self-care.

So far I have been #yogacommitted for 80 days.  I’ve missed a few days but this is the most consistent I have ever been with my practice. And I enjoy the idea of developing and growing my yoga practice.

Doing yoga with Adriene as a guide has been the catalyst for change for me in so many ways. The other day I did this yoga flow with Adriene. It was a strong practice and I found it challenging, but I breathed through each posture and my prana was rocking by the end of it.

As I result of daily (or almost daily) yoga practice with the youtube videos, I’ve started going to Yoga with Kristy near where I live.

Kristy is a lovely yoga teacher located on the Sunshine Coast of Australia. She makes everyone feel welcome and allows each participant to work at their own level with kindness and compassion.

This coming Thursday I’ll be off to attend her restorative yoga practice again.  I think I might float home.

Writing

As you can tell from the above, I’m still writing my first novel, Tuppence Weatherstorm.  I’ve finished rewriting the first nineteen chapters and have another ten to go.  I’ve been sending off chapters to my writing buddy in Melbourne and I’m looking forward to feedback on what works and what doesn’t.

When I wrote my first draft, it was just under 80,000 words. But now, on the third rewrite, the word count has grown to almost 95,000 words. So, I’ll be culling and tightening my prose as I go through my next rewrite.  I’d better add that to my editing list.

So my writing is right on track. I’m falling more in love with Tuppence Weatherstorm and the world I’m building which is good because writing a novel is a marathon activity.

The X-Files

IMG_1325I’m about 24 years behind the times, but I’ve just started watching The X-Files.  This is my  copy of season one. I’ve watched three episodes so far and I’m hooked.

I’m not quite sure what I was doing the whole time The X-Files were airing, but I’m glad the episodes are available for me to binge watch now.

I am loving the paranormal themes of this series. Just saying.

Sometimes it’s all about the puppy-love!

Rocket and I having a cuddle

I  write heaps, but I also do plenty of other things with my time, and one of those things is having fun with my best buddy, Mr Rocket (my toy poodle).  He’s so black that it’s difficult for me to get a photo of his gorgeous face, but you’ll get the idea from these pics.

Rocket and I go to agility training on a weekly basis because living life is about more than the words I write – it’s about spending time doing things I love with those who enrich my life experience.  And Rocket is one of those whom I love and he certainly enriches my life beyond words.  He’s my agility-in-training buddy.

I wish I were able to get some photos of him doing the foundation agility obstacles with me, but it’s hard being on the field and taking photos.  I think I’ll have to ask a friend to come video us or take some photos.  Hopefully on that day we’ll be working in sync so you can see how many cool obstacles he can do.

On Tuesday night we graduated from the foundation course of agility and are getting ready to learn novice level.  So far he’s learned to love his crate, walk the plank (even on wobbling pods), do jumps, run through the tunnel, stand on a perch, sit, drop, stand, nose touches and do post turns as well as multiple turns around the pool noodles.  These are all foundation skills that he and I need to keep practicing so that as we go on with our training, we can do more complex courses.

It’s heaps of fun!

We’re learning to do the weave poles and I am so looking forward to doing this with my agility buddy.

Rocket giving me some love after graduating from foundation agility class on Tuesday 9/8/2016

In the above image, I was sitting on the lounge room floor filling out the Census form after our graduation and Rocket decided to give me a little bit of love. Unfortunately, he wouldn’t stay still for the photo, but I wanted to try to capture a special moment between us.

Bonding with Rocket through agility is bringing us both so much joy and happiness, not to mention a common language and understanding of emotions.

It’s really good fun too, and yet, at times, it can be frustrating when we miscommunicate or if I am not in the right emotional space.  I’m learning how important it is to give him lots of breaks and for me to stay in a positive state of mind as agility is all about working with positive reinforcement.

But we’re doing well.  Above are some photos of him in a drop position and sitting for me. He wasn’t too keen on being photographed, but he did his best to tolerate my need to document his poodle cuteness.

Here’s a video of a very high level competition agility dog doing his thing with his buddy.  Rocket and I might not do competition like these two, but we’re going to learn courses like that and have a heap of fun along the way.

When I decided to adopt Rocket, I always had in my mind, the idea of us doing agility.  It wasn’t until the end of 2015 that I decided it was time for us to get out there and start learning.  We’re having a blast and one day, I hope to show you some videos of us doing our thing on the agility course.  Fun is what this is about for us.

Fun and taking time to do something beyond writing.  Something that brings richness to our relationship.

So … it’s not all about the writing and art.  Sometimes, it’s all about the puppy-love!
